What does it mean for a wig to be pre permed?

Angie By Jon Renau – Prepermed, Hand Tied, Lace front and Mono Top Wig.

What will my wig look like when I receive it? You must remember that manufacturer’s will style their wigs in order to sell their styles.  Sometimes a manufacturer’s image will be very different to the actual wig.  Especially prepermed wigs will be styled quite a lot by the manufacturer.

Angie_8rn_Alt1

Angie  by Jon Renau is just one of those wigs that is pre permed. Pre permed means it has a curl when it comes out of the box and will keep its body after it has been washed.  When you first open the box it is really curly so it gives you an option to straighten it completely or leave some loose waves in it. It has unbelievable bounce in the hair.  The picture on the right is the manufacturers image after styling.  Manufacturer pictures can look very different to the actual product so we like to photograph the product so you get to see exactly what you get when your wig arrives.

I have included images of the wig straight of the box so you can see how curly it is and then images after running a hair straightener through it.  It is entirely up to the wearer how curly, wavy or straight it can be.  It is a great wig with lots of versatility  in regards to styling.

Angie_633capR

The cap features a mono top with a lace front and is 100% Hand tied.  Hand tied means that each hair has been hand tied directly into the cap and there is no wefting.  With a hand tied wig the hair is evenly distributed and gives you the upmost realistic look.  They are more expensive as it is very labor intensive to manufacture a wig like this.  If you run your hands through the wig you can’t see any wefting as there is none.  The first image is the inside cap of the wig.

This was the first time I have had time to have a play with a Jon Renau human hair wig and I was very excited about this wig.  It has a beautiful feel of the hair which is remy, and the hair has a lovely bounce to it.  It looks gorgeous with a few long loose waves left in the style.  It is expensive to buy a human hair wig but there is a vast difference between a cheap human hair and an expensive one.  No one would be able to tell if you were wearing the Angie Wig by Jon Renau.

Angie would have to be one of my favourite wigs and it certainly lived up to my expectations.  I was able to style this wig with a hair straightener with very little time and I am not a hairdresser.

At Wigs Online we can order the Angie in for you within 7 – 10 days if we don’t have it in stock. It comes in many more colours.  You can see more Jon Renau Human Hair and Synthetic wigs on our website, www.wigsonline.com.au

Remy Hair vs Non Remy Hair

shutterstock_31326247Remy Hair is a term that we equate for good quality hair when it comes to wigs and hair extensions.  Remy hair usually feels very smooth and luxurious and usually doesn’t tangle easily.

What is Remy Hair?

Remy hair is made very carefully in the process of bundling human hair with all the roots and cuticles running in all the same direction.  It requires many more man hours and careful manufacturing.  Thus it is more expensive than non remy hair.

Non remy hair is gathered together regardless of the length, cuticle direction and roots. It is a much simpler process and less expensive to produce.  It is usually coated with silicone to give it a smooth feel but the silicon will usually vanish in a few washes. So you may not feel the difference initially but the non remy won’t stay feeling as nice after a little while. Hence the price difference between remy and non remy.

Remy Hair extensions and wigs are made from real hair.  Human hair can withstand heat so it is possible to use a flat iron or curling iron as well as other styling tools so you can style to your wigs and hair extensions to create the look you require.  Take note, as much as you can style with heat its best to style on a low heat so the hair will last longer.  Just like natural hair the less processing and less heat endured by the hair will make the hair last longer.

What is Permatease?

apple-touch-iconold

Permatease is also known as Perma lift.  It is a crimping effect done at the root of wigs to create more volume and height to your hairpiece. It can also be seen at the nape of the wig sometimes as well. If it is done properly it is barely noticeable and wont look ratty as it does in some cheap wigs.  Most hand tied wigs will not have permatease.

It is a personal choice whether you like the permatease  or not.  Some clients like the look and feel that it contributes to the realistic look of the wig.  While others are absolutely opposed to it.

This image below is very close up to the wig.  The next two images are the same wig but a little further away.  As you can see it is only noticeable extremely close up.Permatease1 PermateaseCarrie_Caramel

The image is of the new style we have available from Ellen Wille called Carrie.  Its part of the Perucci range.  It has an European elegance about it.

Difference in Double Drawn and Single Drawn

The market is swamped with so many hair extensions at all prices.  You can be forgiven if you are having problems working out why some are so cheap and other are so expensive.  Quality is a huge factor when it comes to Hair Extensions and prices.

What is Single Drawn?

Single Drawn hair is  hair that was obtained  from one donor as a ponytail. Because it is kept together naturally the donor will have different lengths of hair. Some people like this as they feel it looks more naturally but the ends will not look as full and even.  they can look a little straggly at the ends.

What is double drawn hair?

Double drawn will tangle less than single drawn hair and is the highest quality you can find.  By hand the shorter lengths of hair are removed so it will take more than one donor to make up a weft.  All of the hair will have an uniform length and look much fuller than single drawn.

What do I Buy?

Double drawn is more expensive as it may take 9 – 10 lbs of single drawn hair to make 1 lb of double drawn hair. Also, the labour involved in making double drawn is much more intensive and lengthy which is reflected in the price. Its a personal preference to how much hair you want, the price you are prepared to pay and how much hair you need to integrate with your own.

IMG_6334

Above you can see an image of a Single drawn weft and a double drawn weft.  The double drawn weft is easy to see as it looks much healthier and fuller on the ends.

All of the wefts at Wigs Online are Double drawn and are kept at reasonable prices as much as possible.

What does it mean for a Wig to be Hand Tied?

Sophia_12FS8_Main

If you are a first time wearer you may be struggling with choosing the right wig for you.  Terms like Hand Tied, Mono top or Lace front all seem very complicated.  They are all very good features of a really good quality wig.

You have probably found lots of information on Mono tops and Lace fronts but what does a Hand tied wig mean for the wig wearer.  Just to refresh, a mono top is a fine mesh that is so transparent that the hair looks like it is coming out of your own scalp.  The Lacefront is describing the very sheer lace on the hair line at the front of the wig which also gives you the appearance of the hair like a natural hair line.  These terms are quite common for good quality brands like Jon Renau, Henry Margu and Ellen Wille.

Below you can see what a hand tied wig looks like on the inside of the cap. Hand tied is a little different and does make a wig more expensive. As the name suggests each hair is individually tied into the cap by hand.  It is expensive as it is very labour intensive and a hand tied wig can take 3 -4  times longer for a wigmaker to make.  Hand Tied wigs give you a very comfortable fit as they are finished very smoothly on the cap’s surface.  They are the most naturally looking wigs that you will find regardless if they are human hair or synthetic hair.  There is no risk of the wefting showing as there is no weft just a very fine quality lace.  The hair looks like it is coming out of your own scalp.  The way the hair is attached allows the hair to be multi directional giving you versatility in styling.

If your budget allows for it I would without hesitation suggest a Hand tied wig but be warned it will be difficult to go back to anything else in the future.

Should I wear a Wig Liner?

Wearing a wig can take a little getting used to and first time wearers need to work out the best products to suit their needs.  There is no right or wrong way to wear your wig, everyone is different and everyone’s preferences are also different.

Many clients don’t wear anything between the wig and their scalp while others will wear Wig Caps or Wig Liners.  Here are a couple products that may help you be more comfortable in wearing your wig.

Wig Caps

Wig Caps come in Nylon or Fish Net options.  As with everything neither is better than the other, it just depends what you feel is more comfortable.  Some prefer the Nylon Wig Cap as it creates a barrier between the wig for their scalp especially if the scalp is sensitive.  Others find the Nylon Wig Cap is too hot and doesn’t breathe so they prefer the Fish Net wig caps.

Wig Liners

We also have an alternative product, Headline It Wig Liners by Jon Renau.  They are a fantastic product that will help in making your wig more comfortable.  It is a discreet liner for wigs that evaporates the sweat so you don’t have sweat pouring down to your eyes.  It will keep you cooler in summer and warmer in Winter.  It is designed to pull sweat to the top layer and then evaporate continuously. The back layer traps oil, salt and doors to keep your wig cleaner and more comfortable.

The Headline It Liner Benefits:

Keeps you feeling drier
Reduces odour and bacteria
Allows air to ventilate
Less washing of your wig is required
The tan colour camouflages to be worn discreetly under your wig or headwear.

The average use of a Headline It is one week.  They are disposable and one size fits all.  Each pack consists of 10 liners individually packed so you can keep one in your bag.

As you can see they are very easy to put in.  Simply remove the strip and adhere to the front of your headwear or wig. You can wear it continuously on average for one week before you need to discard it.

What is a Lace Front Wig?

Lace Front Wigs.

Fiery_5Lace front Wigs are very popular.  The hairline has a look of natural hair growth along the front hair line.  With a lace front hair wig you can pull the hair away from the face as it looks very realistic.  The front of the wig has a fine sheer mesh which the hair is individually tied to.  Being hand tied the hair is usually multi directional so you can style it whichever way you choose.  Most hand tied Lace Front wigs are ready to wear.  Wigs Online carries a few human hair as well as synthetic hair wigs.  A lace front wig will be more expensive as the labour costs involved in making a lace front is a lot higher than a fully wefted wig.  On a Lace from the hair is individually tied so this is very labour intensive.

The lace front can be glued down with adhesive or not depending on your preference.  If you want to remove the wig each night we would recommend using something like It Stays Body adhesive which is easily removed with just water. Alternatively you can use Hairpiece adhesive and the Remover.  We would only suggest this if you were happy to wear your wig all day and night.  And to remove every 5 -7 days.

You must always be careful with the lace as it is very delicate but the realistic look of a lace front is worth the time and effort.  If the lace is a good colour match to your skin tone it should be invisible.  When you apply your make up, you can cover the lace front with your make up to give you a flawless finish.

The Difference between a Wig and A Toupee

What is a Wig?  What is a Toupee?

The use of a wig or a toupee are very different.  A wig is a to cover the full head entirely whether the wearer has hair or not. A wig can be taken off easily and doesn’t need any special glues to hold it in place.  The wig is elasticised and will hold firmly on the wearer comfortably.

A toupee is used to cover a bald spot on the wearer’s head.  A special adhesive is applied to hold the toupee in place.   It is usually for males and not so much for females.  A good toupee needs to be fitted by a specialist to integrate the toupee with the wearer’s own hair. Usually the wearer will need to go back to the stylist to have it removed as well.  If you don’t want to apply the toupee with glue, it can be attached with clips but it may not be as secure as if the adhesive is used.

Caring for a wig or a toupee will require special shampoo and conditioner formulated for wigs and toupees.  The only difference would be that you can take your wig off and wash it in a basin and a Toupee you would wash while wearing the hairpiece.

Whether you choose a toupee or a wig is a personal preference.  Both can look fabulous and give you a boost of confidence of your appearance.

JackyHHBase_44

On the right  is an image of the inside of a toupee. JackyHH_44Toupee’s constructions can vary.  The toupees that we have in stock have a monofiliament base and a medical strip around the edge to aid in applying glue or adhesive.  As you can see on the mannequin it doesn’t cover the whole head.
